What Is Strontium Citrate ?
Strontium citrate, a naturally occurring alkaline earth element, has close similarities with calcium in its absorption in our gut and incorporation into our bones. Its efficacy is equal to or better than currently approved prescription drugs for osteoporosis. Some of which are: bisphosphonates, selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs) and recombinant parathyroid hormone (PTH).
Recent data from UK based clinical trials also showed that strontium helps reduce joint damage and symptoms caused by knee osteoarthritis. Over 1000 patients were treated with strontium citrate for 3 years and subsequently were compared to those treated with placebo.
Results of the study showed that strontium usage was associated with a decreased joint damage. Also, scientists associate it with reduced cartilage loss, lessening of pain and improved physical function.
The daily dose of strontium citrate should not exceed 700 mg a day. You should take strontium on an empty stomach with a glass of water at least 30 minutes before meal. You should not take strontium citrate and calcium as well as strontium and magnesium together. Take them at least 2 hours apart from each other. You can take it with vitamin D.
